Leslie Allen Devers, Jr., was born to Cora F. Beverley. He was raised on the Eastside by his mom and stepdad Frank M. Beverley. He attended Irving Elementary School, University Heights and Central Junior High Schools, and Riverside Polytechnic High School. He was a regular at the Settlement House, Lincoln Park, and a member of the track team at Poly.
Leslie enlisted in the Marines March 30, 1965 and trained at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. After a tour in Vietnam from January 1966 to March 1967, he was stationed at Camp Pendleton. In June 196,7 he was reassigned to Hawaii and, in February 1968, was returned to Vietnam. Leslie was killed in combat in Vietnam on April 1, 1968, and buried at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
